I am painting wall after wall and tossing books I only mildly love, numbering almost 300 flung away so far. Debra at As I See It Now
It’s funny how differently books look to me as I get older. I have a large library. Substantial shelves in three places. I would love to sell/dispose of 80% of it now. Michael Spencer at BHT
I woke up one day recently and, before coffee, went straight to my bookshelves and started tossing books on the floor. By the time I was done, there were more than 100 of them, hardback and paperback, littering the scene like corpses.
You name them, I dumped them.” Sam Allis of the Boston Globe
Cannot do it. I cannot toss, sell, dispose of books. Does that make me an addict? Will they come to bury me and have to rescue my poor body from under a huge pile of old books? Allis says the collecting of a multitude of books is a symtom of pride. We just want to show off all our books to visitors and have them marvel at our erudition. Solomon said, “The writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body.” (Ecclesiastes 12:12 NASB)
All I know is I have seventy-nine books catalogued into Library Thing, and I’ve only done two shelves so far. I estimate about 100 to go, that’s shelves not books. At forty per shelf, that would be approximately 4000 books, right?
Throwing out . . . books?
Does not compute.
Maybe there is a medication these obviously deranged individuals can take.
You know, dear sister, as I read the first line of this post, I thought you were saying that YOU were tossing books. For a fleeting moment, I thought you had gone batty. Then I saw that you actually admitted to not being able to toss. Thank goodness, I see you are still the wonderful, book-loving (although body-weary?) sister I know and love.
Toss books? Give them away? Banish the thought!
