(Pearl) Zane Grey, Western author, b. 1875 in Zanesville, Ohio. He dropped his first name later in life. Engineer Husband has an uncle named Horace Pearl; Pearl was an acceptable name for boys around the turn of the century and before. Zane Grey wrote over 90 books, travelled all over the world, and became one of the first millionaire writers. Not bad for guy named Pearl.
Have any of you read any Zane Grey? If so, can you suggest ONE title as a starter?

I’ve never read any Zane Grey westerns but loved a children’s book called The Young Pitcher that had been my father’s. I remember finding it in the attic one day when the Red Sox had been rained out and finding it just as satisfying! Many years later, I was working at Bantam which miraculously found many ZG manuscripts long after he had died (funny how the Grey family kept “finding” unpublished work) and was on vacation in Jamaica where I met an elderly priest from the US who was obsessed with ZG. I made sure he got a copy of every book in print when I got home. I am guessing Purple Sage is the book you should try. In addition, there was a bio about two years ago that got great reviews and was very interesting.
