And many more. I really think I might go see this movie even though I’m not a big fan of war movies or of graphic violence. And I hated Saving Private Ryan.
This looks like a movie I want to see. I agree with what one reviewer said:
“Movies are supposed to get us away from the tragedies of life, right? Wrong. Movies should make you feel. This one does.”
I get so tired of all those movies that are so silly that they make me want to cry. Don’t get me wrong, I like some chick flicks and sometimes I want to just be entertained. But lately I want movies that make me think and make me feel. Maybe that is why most of my favorite movies of the past several years have been “war” movies. Her are a few to see, if you haven’t already:
To End All Wars
We Were Soldiers
Schindler’s List (older, but very good)
I understand your reluctance to see the blood and gore, but these movies are one invaluable way to teach our (older) children history and the reality of war. They provide wonderful opportunities for discussion. The ones I’ve seen and enjoyed also have Christian elements in them to make them great movies to see, showing these events through a Christian worldview.
One to avoid is “Kingdom of Heaven.” It was a well-done movie, but very historically inaccurate.
