This Disney TV version of Little House on the Prairie sounds interesting. It starts this Saturday, March 26th on ABC network, I think. If it’s on the Disney channel, I won’t be able to watch since we don’t purchase cable TV.

There’s a new Veggie Tales movie out on DVD: Duke and the Great Pie War. It’s a pre-quel to King George and the Ducky, and it’s based very loosely on the story of Ruth and Naomi. If you’re anti-Veggie Tales, you can say so in the comments, but I’ve enjoyed the humor and and the silly songs and the lessons ever since the first one came out in 1993.
However, I must be way behind because I thought Big Idea went out of business right after Jonah came out in theaters. I found out they didn’t (or they came back to life or something) from the guest blogger at Brandywine Books.

The Weekly Standard has an article entitled Our Literary Leaders on the reading habits of US presidents. From this article I learned:
Ronald Reagan taught himself to read at age five.
James Garfield was fond of the novels of Jane Austen. (Good taste)
Teddy Roosevelt said that Thackeray was a gentleman and Dickens was not. (Was he complimenting Dickens or Thackeray?)
Calvin Coolidge translated Dante’s Inferno from the Italian.
Franklin Roosevelt was a fan of detective stories and also a speed reader.

  1. Big Idea sold themselves to another company, but for the life of me, I don’t remember the name. I think the VeggieTales have kind of been going in an odd direction ever since Jonah. I LOVE the classics, though. Dave and the Giant Pickle is my favorite. “Lookit me, lookit me, lookit me…I’m a Larry-go-round!” Hee.
