Lyrics and Music: Bill and Gloria Gaither
Theme: He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:6
He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee. Luke 24:6
“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. Mark 16:6
Here Gloria explains the genesis of this hymn:
The clothes, hair, and music are a bit more up to date in this version:
God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!
Chorus:
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!
And then one day, I’ll cross the river,
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict’ry,
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!
This is so far my favorite song and performance by the Gaither Trio. Just so beautiful and great vocals!!! I too am a musician {vocals & guitar} and just over the past few weeks have become a Reborn Christian. It has been a very long and hard struggle for me, but through a lot of prays and the love from others, I finally open my eyes and heart.
I am really blessed with this Hymn. I as facing many uncertain days and diffucult circumstances. But I can face tomorrow because He lives and give us a new hope and the assurance everything will be alright. Thanks Jesus for you live to give us life!
