“People say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading.”
~Logan Pearsall Smith
“Read in order to Live.”
~Gustave Flaubert
Books are good enough in their own way, but they are a mighty bloodless substitute for life.
~Robert Louis Stevenson
I thought dueling quotations might be a nice change. With which do you concur?
Welcome to this week’s Saturday Review of Books.
Here’s how it works. Find a review on your blog posted sometime this week of a book you’re reading or a book you’ve read. The review doesn’t have to be a formal sort of thing. You can just write your thoughts on a particular book, a few ideas inspired by reading the book, your evaluation, quotations, whatever.
Now post a link here to the specific post where you’ve written your book review. Don’t link to your main blog page because this kind of link makes it hard to find the book review, especially when people drop in later after you’ve added new content to your blog. In parentheses after your name, add the title of the book you’re reviewing. This addition will help people to find the reviews they’re most interested in reading.

Hi Sherry!
I think Stevenson’s quote is the truest, but I “resemble” the first quote the most (unfortunately perhaps).
I reviewed a parenting book that I’m linking now; I hope to come back and link a review to Cry, the Beloved Country later.
Have a great day!
Seasons Greetings, Sherry.
May you read and read!
I finished Cry, the Beloved Country!
Merry Christmas, Sherry.
I think the Stevenson quote is the best.
I think they all have a bit of truth in them.
I’d have to agree — I think Stevenson is right.
It all depends on what day and mood I am in. I can see myself concurring with each of those quotes at a different point in my life. Truthfully, I love reading and responding with others who have read the book too. Perhaps that is why at Saturday Review, many of my clicks are on books I have already read.
My link today is not a review but a list of books I plan to read in 2009. It’s all about WWII. I welcome any further suggestions.
Two holiday books, and a chilling novella. A good week for books. Happy holidays, or end of year, everyone!
Reading, reading, reading. What a great time of year.
I surprisingly didn’t have any reviews for this week. LOL I was busy catching up on Meme’s etc.
I am enjoying anthor book now~~
