These are quotations from the movies that help make up a Semicolon family Christmas. Can anyone name all ten?
1. “If you’re ever under a falling building and someone offers to pick you up and carry you to safety, don’t think, don’t pause, don’t hesitate for a moment— just spit in his eye.”
“What did that mean?”
“It means we’re going to Vermont.”
2. “Why don’t you kiss her instead of talking her to death?”
“You want me to kiss her, huh?”
“Ah, youth is wasted on the wrong people.”
3. “Yeah, there’s a lot of bad ‘isms’ floatin’ around this world, but one of the worst is commercialism. Make a buck, make a buck. Even in Brooklyn it’s the same–don’t care what Christmas stands for, just make a buck, make a buck.”
4. Rats, singing: “This is my island in the sun!”
5. “All I want is what I have coming to me. All I want is my fair share. ”
6. “Why am I such a misfit? I am not just a nit-wit. You can’t fire me, I quit. Seems I don’t fit in.”
7. “Garments were invented by the human race as a protection against the cold. Once purchased, they may be used indefinitely for the purpose for which they are intended. Coal burns. Coal is momentary and coal is costly. There will be no more coal burned in this office today.”
8. Stacy: Come on, you guys. She must have some good qualities. Think about it. Come on, you two.
Matt: Well, both her eyes are the same color.
Tanya: She never threw up on me.
9. “I wanted to play ‘Mousetrap. Ya roll your dice, ya move your mice. Nobody gets hurt.”
Yeah, we’re heavy on the animated features around here. I still have a six year old in the house.
I know 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 – and all the others are so familiar that when I read the answers, it will probably be one of those slap-myself-on-the-forehead moments.
The kids and watched #1 tonight. My favorite of all.
Mockingbird and I think we came up with #s 1-6. Are we not supposed to list the titles here so we don’t ruin it for other commenters?
I know the first one is from “White Christmas” and 6 is from “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer.” I think #7 is from some “A Christmas Carol.” A couple of others look familiar, but I can’t place them.
Number 9 is from the Toy that Saved Christmas. My kids are teens and we still love the Veggie tales around here!
My guesses:
1. White Christmas
2. It’s a Wonderful Life
5. Charlie Brown’s Christmas
6. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
The rest I have no clue!
I confess I cannot name all ten because there are only nine listed. But even there were ten, I have no idea what #8 is, I could be wrong on #4, and I don’t know the name of #3.
Well you got me! And I thought I was well-versed in Christmas flicks! #1 jumps out, of course. One of the greatest. #2 is so familiar but, alas, I cannot place it!
Good idea for a quiz.
I know all but #8. Very fun quiz!
I’m pretty confident in my responses to six of them (1, 2, 3, 5, 6,7), but the others are a mystery. In my house, we only watch the older animated specials, so probably where I’m having gaps is the newer ones.
For most of the ones I do know, I can actually hear the character saying them (or singing them).
Sure leave your guesses, if you want. If anyone gets this far they won’t mind knowing the answers.
