Last year in September I did a whole series of posts on apple-related things, and I invited others to link to their own apple-y posts. Somehow this post was leftover, but it’s still good even after a year in cold storage.
Can you name the apple songs that feature these lyrics? Can you name the composer or the artist who made the song famous? Guesses go in the comments, and if you get one or more right (without googling), buy yourself an apple!
1. I just got word from a guy who heard
From the guy next door to me
The girl he met just loves to pet
And it fits you to a T!
2. I feel like this is the beginning
Though I’ve loved you for a million years
And if I thought our love was ending
I’d find myself drowning in my own tears:
3. “The oriole with joy was sweetly singing;
The little brook was burbling its tune.
The village bells at noon were gayly ringing
The world seemed brighter than a harvest moon.
For there within my arms I gently pressed you
And blushing red you slowly turned away
I can’t forget the way I once’t carressed you
I only pray we’ll meet another day . . .
4. And I wake up in the morning with my hair down in my eyes and she says hi
And I stumble to the breakfast table while the kids are going off to school, goodbye.
And she reaches out and takes my hand and squeezes it and says how you feeling hon?
And I look across at smiling lips that warm my heart, and see my morning sun.
5. I can tell you’ve been hurt by that look on your face girl.
Someone brought safety to your happy world.
You need love but you’re afraid that if you give in,
Someone else will come along and sock it to ya again.
1. Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree With Anyone Else But Me
2.
3. I’ll be With You in Apple Blossom Time
4. Little Green Apples
5.
I guess I’m showing my age with these!
None of them rang any bells with me…!
Ahem…you’ve been tagged and honored over at my place…
😉

I just clicked over to your “apple” category and now I want lunch — some of the apple crisp I made yesterday!
None of these songs ring any bells with me either, but are you familiar with the Johnny Appleseed song? “Therrrre’s apple this, and apple that — the recipes’d fill yer hat! — I could carry on like this all dayyyyy…”
1. Don’t sit under the Apple Tree (with anyone else but me) – Andrew Sisters
2. You Are the Apple of My Eye – Stevie Wonder
3. In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree – don’t know who made it popular
4. God didn’t make the little green apples and it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime (what’s the title???!!!) – Roger Miller, I think
5. One Bad Apple (don’t spoil the whole bunch) – don’t know who made it popular
Wow, I don’t know any of these. If #1 is “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” then I’ve never noticed that verse.
Wasn’t “One Bad Apple Don’t Spoil the Whole Bunch” recorded by the Jackson 5?
The only ones I recognized were 1. Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree and 4. Little Green Apples (but I don’t think it’s Roger Miller. Wasn’t it Bobby Goldsboro?)
There is a great apple song by Oscar Brown Jr. called “Forbidden Fruit”….a big hit in the 50s and re-released by Nina Simone in 1959. And yes, The Jacksons did an apple song too.
