Saturday Review of Books: May 19, 2007

From my close observation of writers… they fall into two groups: 1) those who bleed copiously and visibly at any bad review, and 2) those who bleed copiously and secretly at any bad review.
Isaac Asimov

Welcome to this week’s Saturday Review of Books. Here’s how it works. Find a review on your blog posted sometime this week of a book you’re reading or a book you’ve read. The review doesn’t have to be a formal sort of thing. You can just write your thoughts on a particular book, a few ideas inspired by reading the book, your evaluation, quotations, whatever.

Now post a link here to the specific post where you’ve written your book review. Don’t link to your main blog page because this kind of link makes it hard to find the book review, especially when people drop in later after you’ve added new content to your blog. In parentheses after your name, add the title of the book you’re reviewing. This addition will help people to find the reviews they’re most interested in reading.

  1. Sherry, I goofed with my first link to The Harsh Voice review–it sends everyone to a picture of my cat. Sorry. Could you delete it?

  2. Sherry, I goofed with my first link to The Harsh Voice review–it sends everyone to a picture of my cat. Sorry. Could you delete it?

  3. “The Tale of Despereaux” is the 2004 Newbery winner (older children’s lit), and “The House of Rain” is non-fiction about the archaeology (and archaeologists and their theories) of the late prehistoric (say 900 AD-1700 AD) SW US.

  4. I’m so sorry! I hit the enter button too soon and forgot to put the title of my book down. It’s “In This House of Brede.”

  5. Hi Sherry, I left a link to my mother’s blog (which I do the technology for her and she does all the writing). She’s 87 years young, and an avid reader. She’s also been the book group leader at her local senior center for 10 years!

  6. Hey, Monica, “Girl Meets God” is a great book. I’m amazed at Lauren Winner’s prolific output and the variety of subjects she writes on.

Anyhoo, my review this week is for “Desperate Pastors’ Wives.”
