“Dr Adam Smith, than whom few were better judges on this subject, once observed to me that ‘Johnson knew more books than any man alive.’ He had a peculiar facility in seizing at once what was valuable in any book, without submitting to the labour of perusing it from beginning to end. He had, from the irritability of his constitution, at all times, an impatience and hurry when he either read or wrote. A certain apprehension, arising from novelty, made him write his first exercise at College twice over; but he never took that trouble with any other composition; and we shall see that his most excellent works were struck off at a heat, with rapid exertion.”
from Boswell’s Life of Johnson
Welcome to this week’s Saturday Review of Books. Here’s how it works. Find a review on your blog posted sometime this week of a book you’re reading or a book you’ve read. The review doesn’t have to be a formal sort of thing. You can just write your thoughts on a particular book, a few ideas inspired by reading the book, your evaluation, quotations, whatever.
Now post a link here to the specific post where you’ve written your book review. Don’t link to your main blog page because this kind of link makes it hard to find the book review, especially when people drop in later after you’ve added new content to your blog. In parentheses after your name, add the title of the book you’re reviewing. This addition will help people to find the reviews they’re most interested in reading.

I actually remembered to review a few books this week – here are two of them, both knitting mysteries.
I wrote a little blurb about my 9yo son’s latest reading addiction.
–A delightful find that was not on my ’07 list that has added two additional books to the list. The picture on the cover sold me in a minute!
My site is under re-construction–AARGH! But this is the most gorgeously illustrated picture book I’ve seen in years.

In addition to The Kite Runner, on my blog this week you’ll also find a review of Andree’s Seu latest essay collection, Normal Kingdom Business.
The last link is the right one! So sorry, everyone.
Sherry–can you delete the first two?

Trollope is my newest favorite author. I’m halfway through Dr. Thorne. In my post I linked to a review of the book by P.D. James.
Happy Saturday, Sherry!
I am asking for special permission to post two this week. One is for Picture Book Preschool, so I wanted to put up my endorsement here. The other is a great YA series–the Shakespeare Stealer, which I will get posted when I finish writing it. . . .
Thanks Jennifer. Of course you’re welcome to post more than one review.
I added my link to my post about Bibliotopia.
I posted about one of my fun reads during the holiday, and I’m even correcting the typos for Semicolon’s readers.
Finally back with a review! I loved Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie.
Thanks for keeping this up, Sherry!
Sherry,
Thanks for the Saturday Review.
I’ve posted a link to our chat about “How Smudge Came” a Canadian children’s book which simply and vividly illustrates that, Down’s Syndrome or no Down’s Syndrome, we’re all the same on the inside.

Hi! I got here via Mindy Withrow.
My review is up. I recommend Snow Flower and the Secret Fan to ALL women.
Hi! Thanks for posting my link this week! I’ll put you on my blogroll and keep posting my reviews! What a great idea…thanks for doing it.
Lisa..
I added my “review” in the space above. It is not really a review. I don’t have the talent to adequately review books but I love to recommend books. If the entry is not sufficient I will understand. Thanks for providing the opportunity.
