America’s Favorite Poem

Renowned poetry anthologist David Lehman has selected 10 poems from The Oxford Book of American Poetry that he feels represent the most popular American poems ever written. We’d like you to vote on which of these poems is the most loved. Is it Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven, Emma Lazarus’s The New Colossus, or perhaps you prefer something a bit more contemporary? I’ve told you here before that my favorite poem, American or otherwise, is Edgar Allan Poe’s Annabel Lee. However, that poem wasn’t on the list, so which one do you think I voted for? (Not The Raven) Which poem did you vote for? Which poem was left off the list that you would have voted for?

  1. Welll. Personally, I love Prufrock – but didn’t vote for it. As far as which I think would be best love by Americans off that list – I voted for Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. Personally, I would’ve liked to see Casey at the Bat on the list (is that the right title?)

  2. Well, since “somewhere i have never traveled” by ee cummings is not on the list (or any cummings at all, for that matter), I’ve got nothing to vote for.
