Marge Caldwell, Christian speaker, counselor, and author, died last night, and I’m sure she and the Lord are enjoying a good laugh right now. I didn’t know Mrs. Caldwell personally, but I heard her speak several times when I was a young lady. She loved to laugh and to make people laugh and to witness to the joy that is found in the Lord.
Marge’s books, mostly written for young ladies, are no longer in print, but some are available used from Amazon. It’s a funny coincidence, but I recently heard Beth Moore mention Marge Caldwell in a video Bible study (The Patriarchs) that I’m attending. Beth Moore calls Marge Caldwell her “mentor.” Others have called her an encourager, a Baptist Erma Bombeck, and spiritual mother. I’m sure that the full extent of Marge Caldwell’s influence and legacy will only be known in heaven. My sympathies to her family, especially Thor at Thinklings.

I want to extend my sympathies to Marge’s family. I heard her speaking on a Focus On The Family program several years ago. I bought two copies of the tape and have listened to it many times and also shared it with friends. I would have loved to meet her.. And look forward to seeing her in heaven. She was a warm, caring, funny lady that touched my life and encouraged me greatly. Her family will be in my prayers.
in Christ,

I’ve never met Mrs. Caldwell but I first heard her on Focus on the Family a few years ago. I immediately bought the tape and have been laughing ever since. Funny though last month my 10yr old ask me to pull out the tape and I did and we’ve been listening and laughing. I also shared with my coworkers. I’m sorry to learn of her passing but I thank God for her. Thanks Marge. Thank you Lord for Marge Caldwell.
I saw Marge many years ago in Perdido Key at a Womem’s Conference. She did a wonderful skit about a bouquet of flowers. I had the opportunity to do a version of my own for our church ladies recently. Praise You, Lord, for giving us such a Marge, Beth and Ester to teach us how to love You more and learn to know You better.
Marge was my SS teacher at FBC Houston in the late 80’s. Watching her made me want to be a strong Godly woman. I cried when I heard of her passing. She was a wonderful woman.
I was cleaning out a bookshelf when I found a copy of “The Radiant You”, a book that I bought as a young girl. I got curious and looked up Marge on the web. It appears that I am a couple of years behind the news of her passing. Nevertheless, Marge made a huge impact in my life. I heard her speak on three occassions and had the opportunity to talk to her in person each time. She always made me feel that she remembered me from the previous encounter. Just need to say that I have thought of her often over the years and believe that I am a better person because I knew Marge Caldwell.
I, too, just found this posting to learn that this charming, wonderful person is now with our Lord. I was blessed to have heard Marge at a women’s conference quite a few years ago. I hope I never forget her telling of trying to keep her legs ladylike and together as the plane she was on hit an air pocket!! What a blessing she has been to so many people. He way of using humor to draw you closer to the Lord was priceless!
Thank goodness for Google so that your kind post can still be found, 11 years after you posted it.
One of Marge’s speeches was aired (and re-aired) by Dr. James Dobson on Focus on the Family, circa 1990/91. I happened to catch most of it ‘live.’ I had never heard such a funny Christian speaker in my entire life. God gave her the gift of humor in abundance!
That same day, I called Focus and requested the audio tape. I must have played the tape 20 times. After a series of moves around the country, the tape went missing…so, in 2004, as I was preparing for marriage, I called Focus and requested yet another copy. I must have played that tape 30 times as I dealt with a terrible job situation and a very rocky start to marriage. Marge’s message always brought a smile to my face, lifted my spirits, and encouraged my faith.
The 2004 tape, after two moves, has gone missing. Focus no longer has any audio recordings of Marge. I keep praying that it will turn up. If it does, I will convert it to digital format and post it on the web so that others can be encouraged by Marge.
Every time I think of Marge, I smile. Thank you for your kind post at the time of her death. Also, I wasn’t aware that she had written some books. I am going to try to find used copies on Amazon for my daughter; thanks for the tip!
I remember hearing Marge on Focus on the Family tell the story of Skeeter, the Mafia hit man, to whom she witnessed, and who got saved. What a powerful story of salvation and the Holy Spirit! Thank you God. Thank you Marge.
Wow–I was just quoting Marge, as I sometimes do, because I think I may have messed something up…here is the quote I sent:
There was a lady called Marge Caldwell.
She became a Christian and started telling everyone she met…
& she tried to remember Bible Stories & invited people to Church.
Her Pastor came to her to correct her where she had messed up…
She had got several Bible things wrong!
So she told him, “That’s allright Pastor…
I’ll get them into the Church, and YOU can straighten them out!”
I then told the lady at Church that I hope She can straighten out My mistakes; and, I looked up Marge’s name to be sure I spelled it correctly…
Is she really up in Heaven, laughing with the LORD, and not here anymore?? I don’t believe it–I believe she is Still Living On–Here–in the Hearts of those who Love & Appreciate Her!! <3 Thanks be to God for Focus on the Family & Marge's Message so Helpful to Young Moms!!! ?
I woke up just this morning with Marge Caldwell’s name in my head! I first heard her on Focus on the Family. I bought the cassette tape to share her talk, she made me laugh and laughter is such good medicine to my soul! I will never forget the comment she made about early risers who “wake up saying GOOD MORNING LORD! ? she would say GOOD LORD ITS MORNING”! ? My father was an early riser and he would go down the hall saying “Rise and Shine”!!! I was sure she would get me.
This morning when I thought of her I’m glad I could find this place with stories of how she has blessed others with her humor! I’m sure she is bringing laughter to an audience in heaven! In case a never said “thank you Lord for Marge Caldwell and her wonderful spirit of humor”
