These are the books I’ve read this year. The grading part was hard, but I just went with my first inclination. I see that I gave five A’s and one A+, and two of those six were classics that I felt confident were not only my personal favorites, but also had spoken to many other people over the course of time. I couldn’t grade Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby, or Gulliver’s Travels–all books I re-read this year in connection with educating my children. I like all of them, but I must admit that I’ve been taught to enjoy them. It really wasn’t love at first sight. On the other hand, love that grow over a period of time may deeper and longer lasting. So I don’t know. The A- books are all well worth your time and energy; grades below a B may indicate that I liked it but also found something about the book intensely annoying. Tomorrow: the books I started and couldn’t finish–and why.
Wow, Sherry! I love this. How wonderfully organized you are about your reading. I have attempted a few times to document my reading and responses to books, but I have never been very successful at keeping long-term records. I was trying last night to gather my list for my December monthly posting.
I’m breathless. That’s impressive.
Thank you! What a great list. Now I’ve got even more for my own wish list. I was considering using a 1-5 system for myself. One being “I hope the neighbors don’t see this in the trash.” Five being “I must purchase a copy of this for my library.” Your letter grading system is better.
