A new study shows that nearly half the young families who live in San Francisco are planning to move within the next three years. The city already has the lowest population of children per capita of any big U.S. city. From All Things Considered, NPR, December 6, 2005
No comment.
Shall we rename it Dinkville? The foo-foo subdivision near me has a special Dink Club.
With the cost of living in San Francisco, it is no surprise. We left the SF area in 1988 when a teaching salary was 17K and housing was 200K+ Not an equation with any hopes of ending in the black. What an impact an entire culture, though, to have a mass evacuation of children. I know that San Francisco has its nasty reputation, but oh! how I love that city. How sad to imagine the children all gone.

Seeing San Fran. at night made a strong impression on me. Beautiful, even otherworldly. Lots of things seem so nice about that city. All the politics don’t, but other things do.
