“You must get into the habit of looking intensely at words, and assuring yourself of their meaning, syllable by syllable–nay, letter by letter… you might read all the books in the British Museum (if you could live long enough) and remain an utterly “illiterate,” uneducated person; but if you read ten pages of a good book, letter by letter, — that is to say, with real accuracy– you are for evermore in some measure an educated person.”
~John Ruskin
Welcome to this week’s Saturday Review of Books.
Here’s how it usually works. Find a review on your blog posted sometime this week of a book you’re reading or a book you’ve read. The review doesn’t have to be a formal sort of thing. You can just write your thoughts on a particular book, a few ideas inspired by reading the book, your evaluation, quotations, whatever.
Now post a link here to the specific post where you’ve written your book review. Don’t link to your main blog page because this kind of link makes it hard to find the book review, especially when people drop in later after you’ve added new content to your blog. In parentheses after your name, add the title of the book you’re reviewing. This addition will help people to find the reviews they’re most interested in reading.
Thanks to everyone for participating.

I read a good JF/YA book by Gloria Whelan this week! I’m also giving away a picture book on my blog next week!
Good morning, readers! It’s been weeks since I’ve been here, and I’ve missed it. The usual life things got in the way, plus (or perhaps as a result) I’ve think I’ve lost my reading mojo! I had to return Shadow Country by Peter Matthiessen to the library unfinished before my vacation, and didn’t finish Zafon’s Shadow of the Wind for my book group. I WILL finish both, eventually, but I need to get my book groove back. (My loss of reading mojo may also have something to do with the copious games of Lexulous (online Scrabble-y game) that I’ve been playing. Ahem.) Thus I have two book-in-progress entries today for the giant novels I’m trying to finish, and two reviews of light, non-fiction books that were what I could actually finish on my vacation. Wish me luck, and as always, happy reading!
Thank so much! I’ve put up my contribution a bit late in the day today. Since I recommended it to you earlier this week under your post about Survival Books I wanted to say that I was disappointed to learn that my book has turned out to be fraudulent. I still did a review.
Oops, a bit late I’m afraid.
