“It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.”
~Oscar WIlde
Welcome to this week’s Saturday Review of Books.
Here’s how it usually works. Find a review on your blog posted sometime this week of a book you’re reading or a book you’ve read. The review doesn’t have to be a formal sort of thing. You can just write your thoughts on a particular book, a few ideas inspired by reading the book, your evaluation, quotations, whatever.
Now post a link here to the specific post where you’ve written your book review. Don’t link to your main blog page because this kind of link makes it hard to find the book review, especially when people drop in later after you’ve added new content to your blog. In parentheses after your name, add the title of the book you’re reviewing. This addition will help people to find the reviews they’re most interested in reading.
Unfortunately, Mr. Linky isn’t cooperating as of 1 AM CST. SO leave a link to your review in the comments if you don’t see the linky, and I’ll try to get it working tomorrow. It’s working now. Thanks to everyone for participating.

What Women Wish You Knew About Dating
http://barbarah.wordpress.com/2009/01/13/book-review-what-women-wish-you-knew-about-dating/
This is my first Saturday Review! I’m excited to start participating.
Mr. Linky doesn’t seem to be up at the moment, so hear is my review of Lilith by George MacDonald: http://linesfromthepage.blogspot.com/2009/01/lillith-by-george-macdonald.html. I’ll check back later to see if I can add it the usual way.
Mr. Linky is not in a linky mood at the moment, so I am posting the link to the book I read and reviewed: My Father’s Paradise, by Ariel Sabar. http://jewwishes.wordpress.com/2009/01/13/jew-wishes-on-my-fathers-paradise-by-ariel-sabar/
Mr. Linky was being temperamental during Poetry Friday yesterday. Glad to see he’s cooperating — at least, at the moment!
This week a new book “The Element” was released by Sir Ken Robinson. I heard him speak this week and am 3/4 through the book. Love the book.
This week the third in the series “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” was released, new title “The Last Straw”. I share impressions and different views regarding the series which is highly popular with middle school boys especially and some girls too. This is required reading in at least one public school system near me.
I have been reviewing children’s books this week. Here is one I really enjoyed. Ralphina, the Roly-Poly.
My review of Coventry by Helen Humphries: http://freshinkbooks.blogspot.com/2008/08/love-and-war.html
My review of What We All Long For by Dionne Brand: http://freshinkbooks.blogspot.com/2009/01/what-we-all-long-for-by-dionne-brand.html
My review of Letters Between Us by Linda Rader Overman: http://freshinkbooks.blogspot.com/2009/01/letters-between-us-by-linda-rader.html
My reviews of The Madonnas of Leningrad, The Gravedigger’s Daughter, and The Museum Guard: http://freshinkbooks.blogspot.com/2009/01/tss-books-read-this-week.html
Thank you.
Sherry,
I came back and linked one of my reviews before I noticed that you had already linked the ones previously linked in comments. Sorry!
I have two reviews to share this week. This one is of two Robert McCloskey books – both children’s books (Make Way For Ducklings and Blueberries For Sal).
It is here: http://joyfulllyretired.wordpress.com/2009/01/13/two-childhood-favorites/
I also reviewed Divine Justice by David Baldacci. It is here: http://joyfullyretired.wordpress.com/2009/01/15/book-review-divine-justice/
I did not see Mr. Linky last night, and I don’t see him this morning, so I’ll try to link here in the comments.
A cat biography: http://lines-inpleasantplaces.blogspot.com/2009/01/deweythe-small-town-library-cat-who.html
And a cozy mystery involving miniatures: http://lines-inpleasantplaces.blogspot.com/2009/01/murder-in-miniature.html
Now I’ll go back through the comments and read the all reviews that are here – it’s my Saturday tradition since you started hosted the SRoB!
I read John McPhee’s Crofter and the Laird. McPhee is a fabulous nonfiction writer, and I’ll now read anything by him, and he’s got a lot of fascinating stuff.

Mr. Linky seems to be napping right now. Here’s my review:
White Corridor, by Christopher Fowler
Not sure why there are smiley faces on our entries this week, but anyway thanks again for doing this.
I finally got around to reading Coraline, which I’d borrowed from a friend months ago. I don’t know why it took me so long to get around to reading it when it’s such a short, but good, book!
Thank you!
