I love reading another reader’s list of favorites. Even when I find I do not share their tastes or predilections, I am provoked to compare, contrast, and contradict. It is a most healthy exercise, and one altogether fruitful.

Welcome to this week’s Saturday Review of Books.
Here’s how it usually works. Find a review on your blog posted sometime this week of a book you’re reading or a book you’ve read. The review doesn’t have to be a formal sort of thing. You can just write your thoughts on a particular book, a few ideas inspired by reading the book, your evaluation, quotations, whatever.
Now post a link here to the specific post where you’ve written your book review. Don’t link to your main blog page because this kind of link makes it hard to find the book review, especially when people drop in later after you’ve added new content to your blog. In parentheses after your name, add the title of the book you’re reviewing. This addition will help people to find the reviews they’re most interested in reading.
However, this week only, SATURDAY, January 3rd, will be a special edition of the Saturday Review of Books especially for booklists. You can link to a list of your favorite books read in 2008, a list of all the books you read in 2008, a list of the books you plan to read in 2009, or any other end of the year or beginning of the year list of books. Whatever your list, it’s time for book lists. So link to yours.
(Yes, you can still link to a review of an individual book.)

I’m new also…and did it wrong the first time! I put my general blog link instead of the book review link. 🙁 Here’s the correct link for Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus (http://tiny.cc/v1Ksw). Sherry, love your blog. Glad to have come across it. Happy New Year! B.
Great idea and I love the quote!
Thanks for the reminder and encouragement, Sherry! I hope this year to visit more regularly and read more than last. 🙂
Great idea for this weekend’s review. Thanks for the invite, I appreciate it.

I don’t know how I’m going to pull myself away from the computer. I love lists– booklists not grocery lists–and feel like I’m entering a danger zone. But it is the delicious danger of adding more books to my reading lists.
Thanks for being the best host, Sherry!

I linked two lists: my completed reading for 2008 and selected quotes from my favorite books of 2008.
Happy New Year. I added my list and another review I did this week.
Happy New Year! Thanks again for letting us link here. And now I have tons of books to choose from to add to my TBR list. Cool. . .
Happy New Year!
Thanks for setting this up, Sherry.
Hello there! Happy 2009 to you! I just posted three reviews to Mr. Linky. Thanks for doing this. I make a lot of new blogger friends by posting reviews here. Have a good weekend.
Good morning everyone. I am new to Saturday review and look forward to kicking off my weekends here. I left the link to the books I read in 2008 and subsequent posts contain commentary on what I read. Happy reading to you all in 2009.
great idea, happy new year 🙂
Thanks! I love year-end lists!
I added mine, but failed to add the title of the entry after my name (2008 in Books). Sorry. *blush*
Love this idea!
I love all the lists you have been posting lately! Thanks.
Hmm, a link to a recent post of mine has been added here (#147 – Ohbecareful), but I’m not the one who added it. Kinda strange. It’s not really a big deal — and I doubt it was done with malicious intent — but thought you might want to know.
