I’m getting to be an old bird, and I want to take it easy. But I want some reading —some fine bold reading, some splendid book in a gorging Lord-Mayor’s Show of wollumes, . . . as’ll reach right down your pint of view and take time to go by you. How can I get that reading, Wegg?”
Mr. Boffin in Charles Dickens’s Our Mutual Friend.
Welcome to this week’s Saturday Review of Books. Here’s how it works. Find a review on your blog posted sometime this week of a book you’re reading or a book you’ve read. The review doesn’t have to be a formal sort of thing. You can just write your thoughts on a particular book, a few ideas inspired by reading the book, your evaluation, quotations, whatever.
Now post a link here to the specific post where you’ve written your book review. Don’t link to your main blog page because this kind of link makes it hard to find the book review, especially when people drop in later after you’ve added new content to your blog. In parentheses after your name, add the title of the book you’re reviewing. This addition will help people to find the reviews they’re most interested in reading.
Thanks to everyone for reviewing, blogging, and linking.
Saturday Reviews: Alphabetical by Title. (an unfinished list)
Don’t forget to join in on the Saturday Review of Books Reading Challenge.
It’s an old fantasy novel for me this week. Sadly, I’m not reading Gibbons like Wegg in Our Mutual Friend!
I forgot to add the title of the book (Number 35 above), but added it in number 36. SORRY! (Is there a way to delete number 35 now?)
Just discovered this site today — what a great idea to post these “book thoughts!”
Love Our Mutual Friend! The characters in this novel are so colorful (Wegg v. Boffin, Wrayburn v. Headstone!). Love it!
Hi Sorry I left my link in the wrong post the first time. I found you via an old link at Why Homeschool.
I love to read so I plan to visit often.
Sherry, somehow my finger grazed “enter” before I was finished typing, which is why I have two entries. I’m sorry! Is there any way to delete that with Mr. Linky? And I have no idea why they appear above with smiley faces. I love Mr. Linky, but I don’t think he likes me too much!
I’m in with the hip and trendy, and very good, “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle” by Barbara Kingsolver.
Sherry, thank you as always for providing this venue for reviews. It is nice to know that I have another place to let people know about books I think are just great. Small Beauties is one of the best picture books I have read in quite awhile.
This is a great place 🙂 Glad I found it (through complete accident at first, because someone submitted one of my reviews. Thanks to whoever that was!)
This is my first time here. I posted a review of Fable: Legends in Exile which was a great graphic novel I read. I recommend it to anyone who likes fairy tales.
What a great blog – I just discovered you via Musings of a Bookish Kitty. Thanks!
I finished Bridge this week for the summer reading challenge. I’ve been re-reading this classic and am glad I did. The story if filled with great characters, beautiful images, and deep literary acumen. No wonder it’s a Newberry winner.
I just found your site this week and love it! I’m thinking about participating in the Saturday Review Challenge…just have to find my 6 picks.
